RESIDENTIAL INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS

INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM AT THE GREENWIN INDEPENDENT LIVING CENTRE (Yonge and Eglinton)

 Program Overview

This program is designed for neurodiverse students aged 16+ who are exploring the possibility of independent or supported independent living. The focus is on building practical skills needed to manage day-to-day life in a residential setting, while also strengthening the social skills required to navigate a shared building community.

Throughout the week, students will experience what independent living entails by learning and practicing essential skills in a real apartment setting. The program runs Monday to Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., over a one-week period.

A key component of the program is our Food for Life Pillar, which gives students hands-on opportunities to practice grocery shopping, prepare nutritious and budget-friendly meals, and enjoy what they’ve made together.

Please note: This is a day program only and does not include overnight stays.

Funding: Our services are fully eligible for Passport Funding.
This program is also a mobile program that is offered to remote communities who have difficulty traveling to Toronto.  Please email for more details.
Curriculum Details:

  • Healthy Cooking and Food Prep/Knife Skills/Following a recipe
  • Hands on grocery shopping skills in neighboring shops
  • Housekeeping (cleaning, bed making, bathrooms, dusting)
  • Chore Schedules and Priorities
  • Laundry
  • Ironing
  • Apartment and Social etiquette
  • Fire Safety
  • Sharing a living space 

Program will also include recreational activities, swimming, and community exploration of amenities.  

Program Options

  • For students 16+ who are still in school:
    Programs are delivered as one-week camps offered in March, July, and December

Cost:  $585.00/week (includes all food costs and meals)
 

  • For adults 21+:
    Participants may choose from 1-day or 3-day program options, available Monday to Friday, with both morning (A.M.) and afternoon (P.M.) sessions. Each session is 3 hours in duration

Cost:  $80.00/day (includes all food costs and meals)

BMO Financial Literacy Program

Financial Literacy Program Overview

Our Financial Literacy Program prepares students for financial independence by introducing them to the world of money in a fun, engaging, and creative environment. Participants build essential money management skills and gain confidence in making informed financial decisions. The program starts with foundational concepts such as the value of money and budgeting, and progresses to more advanced topics including banking, short- and long-term savings, and planning for future financial goals.

  • Understanding the Value of Money
  • Earning Income and Income Deductions
  • Exploring different Types of Accounts
  • Distinguishing Wants vs. Needs
  • Creating and managing a Budget
  • Planning for Short-Term and Long-Term Savings
  • Setting and achieving Long-Term Goals
  • Learning about Registered Disability Savings Plans (RDSPs)
     

Program Options & Registration

  • Programs are available for students 16+ and adults 21+, with flexible scheduling options. 
  • Saturday programs will run 10-2 as follows with lunch and snacks included:

Transitioning to Post Secondary Assistance Program

Post-Secondary Success Program 

This  program, developed by Reach Toronto in collaboration with a university professor experienced in supporting post-secondary students, is designed to empower Autistic youth who are either planning to enter post-secondary education or are already enrolled. Participants will gain the knowledge, strategies, and confidence needed to make informed educational decisions and succeed in their academic journey.

Curriculum Highlights

  • Choosing a Suitable Program – Identify the best fit for skills, interests, and goals
  • Deciding Between Vocational School, College, or University 
  • Applying to Post-Secondary Programs – Navigate applications and deadlines
  • Finding Financial Support – Explore scholarships, bursaries, and student loans
  • Accessing Academic Accommodations  – Explore the supports available to you and gain confidence in knowing your rights as a student
  • Campus Services – Utilize writing centers, libraries, and other supports
  • Course Selection and Schedule Building – Plan an effective and balanced course load
  • Communication with Professors – Learn strategies for effective interaction
  • Skills for Academic Success – Develop note-taking, studying, scheduling, and time-management skills
